Birthday fishing

SE 15-20 Kts. Partly cloudy
Headed out to the fishin' grounds. They call it 'the flats' and it lies just south of Great Chain Island, in Juan De Fuca Strait. It was pretty lumpy out there with 3-4 ft. chop but it sunned more than it clouded and all went well deploying the gear. I fished for about an hour or so before heading to Oak Bay Marina to pick up Barnucka.
Back out on the chuck, we fished and drank beer for another couple of hours. The good news is I didn't lose any gear, the bad news is we didn't even get a bite. What's more, there was no evidence of any fish on the fish-finder.
It felt quite strange not to be sailing with such a fresh Southeasterly but never-the-less, wanted to try fishing. Will reserve fishing for future days bereft of wind.
All in all, a great way to spend my 53rd birthday.

Rod and downrigger deployed.
