To Chatham with new Bridle
Sunny and hot
N 10 Kts.
Flood tide
Arrived at T2 by 09:00 in anticipation of installing new mooring bridle. New bridle is 3/8" galvanized steel rope, fabricated by Western Equipment. I had also arranged to have Isaac from Scuba Scrubbers install my new mooring line but at the last minute discovered that Envirofloat had sold me the wrong sized shackles. They wouldn't fit through the eyes. Fortunately I discovered this before the diver arrived so was able to postpone until later this week.
So, after installing bridle, I motored to Chatham for lunch. Once there, I launched the dinghy and rowed to the blackberry patch where I quickly picked a mess o' berries for lunch. I rowed right through a crowd of seals sunning themselves on rocks in the middle of the channel separating Chatham from Discovery Islands.
For years, I've been told there is a wolf on the Islands. Well today I actually heard it howling while I was picking berries. I have to admit hearing a wolf howl is a little freaky.
Returned to T2 and not a moment too soon. The Songhees Nation patrol boat was soon on the scene, delivering a load of kids to the beach. Not long after, one of the Yacht Club committee boats arrived, ferrying another load of kids to the island. I haven't seen anyone on the beach at Chatham since I was in high school.
I asked the bylaw enforcement officer if I could have a day pass to the Island. "Not today" was his official response.

Another view of the new bridle.
Leaving T2 in search of blackberries.
You don't have to hike far after coming ashore to find blackberry bushes hanging under the weight of all the berries. Found a beach ball too!
Looking back along the channel between Chatham and Discovery Island.
Seals sunning themselves on the rocks.
Trouper II at anchor off Chatham Island.
Freshly picked Chatham Island blackberries and a cold glass of San Pelagrino!

Kids on the beach at Chatham Island. Haven't seen that since the old Yacht Club picnics some 40 years ago. Fuck I'm old.
