Dropped the crab trap and motored out to fishing grounds, South of Discovery Island in Juan de Fuca strait. (30 minutes)

Re rigged my down rigger  and attached one of Dave Tobacco's 10 lb weights. I wanted to rewind the reel to tighten up the steel cable so it wouldn't keep wanting to unravel. Lowered the weight 150 feet and (like an idiot) hit bottom. The $40 weight released and I came up with no weight. What's my depth sounder for again?

Moved on to the next project, installing the rod holder. That went off without a hitch. I found a 5 lb. weight of dad's and snapped it on the down rigger so I did manage to re-wind the line after all. But of course by this time, I was out of time so no salmon today. I'm totally ready for next time so we'll see.

I returned to Cadboro Bay via East side of Chatham and Discovery Islands and pulled the crab trap. Managed to take home 3 large dungeness and a couple of red rock crabs. The kids were very excited!

Cooked crabs, cooling in the sink.
