Juan De Fuca via Plumper Passage
Heavy fog, S 5-10 Kts.
Replaced lead sound-proofing in engine compartment. Fixed navigation lights which where damaged by drifting sailboat. Gently scrubbed waterline, removing light growth.
Dropped crab trap, raised main and genny. Sailing by instruments as visibility less than half a mile. Had a bit of a scare and disoriented when South shore came into view through the fog. Thought I was in Banes Channel when the chart showed otherwise. Chart was correct. Fog lifted by the time I approached Chain Islands.
Continued South through Plumper Passage into Juan De Fuca Strait almost to shipping lanes. Wind died so I motored back to Cadboro Bay via Mayor Channel. Plenty of sports fishermen out in the Strait.
Dropped sails and retrieved crab trap. It was full of small crabs. Zero 'keepers'. Shortened moorage rode and connected secondary line directly to buoy. Plan to swap out primary nylon line in favour of 3/4" chain.
A very pleasant sail in the sunshine. Enjoyed myself completely.
