I'm on board T2 enjoying a coffee while the Taylors furnace softly hisses in the background. It's just like having a Coleman lantern burning, same sound. I dropped Jelly Bean at Oak Bay Marina this morning and rode my bike to Cadboro Bay. I plan to take on fuel at Oak Bay and remove the cushions for the winter. The only fly in the ointment is a thick fog rolling in off the straits. Will stay put and enjoy the boat until the fog lifts and I can deploy the crab trap on my way to the marina.

I spoke to the mechanic at Gartside Marine about my leaky stuffing box. He went on and on about how if the shaft is scored he'd have to take the damn thing off which means hauling out. I'll wait until the Spring when I do the bottom. In the meantime I will inspect and possibly tighten the stuffing box bolt.

I have replaced all of the floorboards after gluing the teak venire back on. Just one small panel left, located in the galley.

Fog finally lifted and on my way at noon. Dropped crab trap off at regular spot and as I was motoring away I snarled what turned out to be an abandoned crab trap. The buoy was missing and I didn't see the floating line. Engine bogged down so I threw her in reverse for a while. I cold see the line angling down to the bottom.

Fortunately the wind was blowing from the South so I had lots of time to figure out what to do. I hopped in the dinghy and tried to pull the line off the prop but no luck. Ended up cutting the line and pulling up the crab trap. Not a bad trap but obviously abandoned as no bait in the bait cage and it looks like it's been down there a while.

Headed back toward my mooring buoy in case the engine died but there was no vibration and all sounded good. Turned toward Oak Bay and off-loaded the cushions. Took on another 34.5 litres of fuel and added stabilizer.

Returned to Cadboro Bay. Two very small crabs in the trap. That's two days in a row I've been skunked.

Didn't manage to sail despite a very acceptable 10 KNT South Easterly wind.
