November Sail to Cordova Bay
North 10-15 kts. Sunny. Flood turning to ebb.
I thoroughly enjoyed a delightful five hour sail. "oh, yeah. I remember why I have a sailboat now...." It was the first sail since the guys weekend back in early September. Although, in all fairness the weather has been quite stormy, the days are getting very chilly and whatever other excuses I can insert here.
I beat through Baynes Channel on the flood and was treated to a freshening breeze approaching the middle of Haro Strait. A number of other boats came through Baynes well behind me. It turns out they were racing round Johnston Reef. I met them there on starboard tack and could have been very obnoxious forcing them all to heave to and give way. I didn't do that because; a) I'm nice and wasn't racing and; b) They were getting too close to the reef for me.
I came about and beat out to the middle of the strait again before tacking and making way for Zero Rock. I came off the wind slightly for a fast, close reach into Cordova Bay. From there I ran back to Baynes Channel and home to Cadboro Bay.
It was a gorgeous, sunny day. Mount Baker was so clear, it seemed to be shining. It was a perfect sailing day with a nice steady North wind. Awesome!
Looking across Haro Strait, past Zero Rock at San Juan Island with Mount Baker peaking out.
Leaving Cordova Bay to stern.
Reaching for Cormorant Point, homeward bound.
