Pulling the transmission
Tom hoists the mighty Yanmar 2QM15 (15 hp diesel engine) while Kevin looks on.
After a fortifying breakfast of oatmeal porridge with uncles Kevin and Tom, the kids were very excited. So much so that at the dinner table that night they were singing;
"We love you Tom, oh yes we do
We love you tom it's true
Oh Tom we love you
We love you Kevin, oh yes we do
We love you Kevin it's true
Oh Kevin we love you"
Very sweet.
Anyhow after breakfast we drove and rowed to T2 to address the issue of the dysfunctional transmission. Please see previous post. It's amazing that after 30+ years, we managed to remove the engine from the mounts and disconnect the transmission with relative ease. Upon removing the engine the output shaft coupling fell clear which seemed to indicate that the problem was simply a lock-nut backing off the coupling. The drive shaft turned smoothly indicating everything seemed to be alright inside the crank case.
Tom dropped the transmission off at Gartside Marine this morning and the mechanic there agreed with our theory. That said they will take a closer look and replace the rear seal. All told, should only cost about $120. That Thomson golden horseshoe again!
Kevin works to remove an access hatch while Tom looks on.
At least we had tunes while we worked this time.
