Barnucka

Dad

I finally got the chance to hank on the main for the first time. Two weeks ago I had wanted to, but forgot the damn sail cover. This time was much better. Not only did I almost forget the sail cover but I almost drove away without the bloody tiller I had just re-finished. Barnucka saved the day on that one.

We picked up dad and descended on Capital City Yacht Club. With dad along, I could actually look other members in the eye. Although we didn't run across another member while we were there.

After little success on our first attempt to hoist the main (at the dock), I sprayed the hanks with 'Sailcoat' to lubricate. Still no luck. We decided to try out of port when we could sail her into the wind. However once we got out there it was blowing a brisk Southeasterly at about 15 knots so Barnuck once again provided the voice of sanity but suggesting what would happen if we couldn't get it down if we did manage to get it up.

The sail. ...get the sail up...

We motored over to Sidney Spit to run her out a little then raised the jib and reached for a while before running back to Saskatoon. I mean CCYC. It was great to get dad out for a sail again. He told me he probably hadn't sailed her in about 5 years and that the last time was probably with me.

I was saddened by a near disastrous departure from the dock after dad tried to guide us out. Note to self, he's to remain on-board during departure and arrival henceforth.

The general consensus regarding the main sail is to just repeatedly try running her up in order to free any oxidation in the track or whatever is impeding a smooth deployment.
