Replacing the Windex
Just a few more feet....
I brought T2 to the Yacht Club yesterday and tied up to the visitor's wharf, then this afternoon when attempting to reverse from the visitors slip to the base of the club's crane, I realized I was getting almost no thrust in reverse. I had been noticing what I believe to be a problem with the folding prop not fully deploying even in forward recently. But usually a quick shift into reverse and then back to forward will fix it. I wonder if the zinc is gone and the prop is corroding.
Anyhow, managed to get her into position. Dad and Barnucka helped hoist me to the top of the mast where I successfully replaced the Windex which had apparently blown off during one of the storms last month. The old mounting base was still firmly attached to the top of the mast so I simply replaced using existing base.
There is no anchor light on the mast head. There's a plastic plug which presumably is where the anchor light would normally be installed. On the way back down I removed the burned out foredeck spotlight bulb for future replacement, and cleaned the underside of the spreaders.
Will have to figure out what to do about the folding prop. Will hang an auxiliary zinc off the transom while not underway. Yacht Club rules have changed. Senior Non-Voting members are no longer allowed to use the crane nor the ways. Which is a real bummer cause the ways at Oak Bay Marina is no longer in service, so the closest way out of the water is Van-Isle Marina in Sidney. They quoted me a price of $265.00 for 1 hour out of the water.
Otherwise the rate for my boat is $392.70 for two days. Out one day, back in the water the next.
Ouch.
On my way up the mast with new Windex in hand. Being careful not to drop it or break the bloody thing before install.
Due to the high tide, I was just barely able to reach the top of the mast to install the Windex. Must have been up there for almost an hour. Numb fingers didn't help either.
Had to be careful that the top of the crane didn't break off the new Windex after installation.
Up the mast without a ladder.
I didn't spend much time looking down. Dad and Barnucka benefited by me not barfing all over them.
The Commodore. His advice while I was up top? "You're not swearing enough!!!"
